MMAlowdown changes

MMAlowdown is changing servers and it is taking a little longer than anticipated. We originally thought it would not interrupt our coverage, however, we were wrong.

We will be working diligently to get the new site up and running by tonight. If not tonight, then hopefully by tomorrow.

Unfortunately, the change is taking up all of our time, leaving no time for updates. I hope you guys understand and keep checking back to MMAlowdown.com and we will be up and running ASAP.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

MMAlowdown announcement

You might have noticed the link on the top right of the website, well, MMAlowdown is very happy to announce that we have teamed up with the official UFC online store. Basically what this means is if anybody clicks on the link on the website and buys stuff from the official UFC store, we get a small commission.

We really hope we can count on you guys for help. I am not asking for you to just go buy stuff for the hell of it, but if you are planning on buying any UFC or MMA merchandise, it would really help if you could buy it through the link on MMAlowdown.com.

I am not looking to line my pockets with the commissions. All proceeds will be going towards future fighter sponsorships as well as website improvements and maintenance. I have a full time job for my bills, this is strictly for the website.

We already have some improvements in the works that will be happening soon. For starters, MMAlowdown will be changing web hosts within the next week or so. This will make a huge difference for the better.

I really look forward to providing you guys with the best MMA merchandise on the net. Anybody we choose to affiliate our website with will be the best of the best. We will not settle for less. You can rest assured that if you ever use any service provided by an affiliate of MMAlowdown, you are getting top-notch products and service, and we take pride in that.

I would really like to know what you guys think about this change. As always you can leave a comment or shoot me an email at mmalowdown@hotmail.com.

ESPN to cover mma

According to Colin Cowherd of ESPN radio, the “upper moustaches” at ESPN are goingespnlogo.JPG to have a meeting to discuss how they will cover mma. The higher-ups at ESPN feel that they “missed the bus on covering mma” and are working out details on how to cover it. Dana White was also asked last night after the Ultimate Fight Night event if he knew if ESPN would eventually cover mma and his response was that he was having a meeting with them on thursday to go over details of the coverage, according to www.f4wonline.com‘s radio show (which you need to subscribe to in order to hear) . You need to be an ESPN insider, which costs around $75 a year, to hear Colin Cowherd’s show about the meeting ESPN was having pertaining to mma. Luckily for you bastards I am a member and I was able to save the audio and host it online. You can hear the full show by clicking here. What was that? a thank you? Oh, dont worry, it was my pleasure. Colin also goes on quite an amusing rant about how the WNBA is covered and mma is not.

This is what mma fans have been asking for as long as I can remember. I just hope they do it the right way and cover mma, not just UFC. I would be very surprised if they took my advice though. But hey, as they say, any publicity is good publicity.

As soon as more info on the outcome of the meeting becomes available I will pass it along. As always, stay tuned to MMAlowdown.com for all your mma needs. I keep promising that I have some big things in the works and a couple big announcements to make, please bare with me and as soon as the time is right I will make it public. You won’t be dissappointed. Also, please give me some feedback via email or the comments section and let me know what you think about the site so far. Remember to check us out at Myspace and MyMMAspace as well.

We look forward to hearing from Sean and seeing him back in the octogon as soon as possible. Keep checking back for more updates on the situation.

I never thought I would be getting this many hits and such positive feedback this early. I know that now I have a voice that is actually heard and I refuse to let it go to waste. I have a lot of stuff in the works that I am sure you are going to enjoy. PRIDE confirms four more fights for “the Second Coming”

PRIDE confirmed to Sherdog.com that the fight that I reported yesterday would be thepride33poster.JPG most likely to happen, is official. I made a post yesterday that Nick Diaz would most likely be fighting Takanori Gomi in his PRIDE debut at PRIDE 33 “the Second Coming” on Feb 24th. According to an article by Sherdog.com, PRIDE has announced four more fights for the card.  Among the fights reported by the Sherdog staff are; Nick Diaz vs. Takanori Gomi, Mac Danzig vs. Hayato “mach” Sakurai, Kazuo Misaki vs. Frank “twinkle toes” Trigg,  and Kazuhiro Nakamura vs. Travis Wiuff.

One of the most exciting match-ups in a long time is Nick Diaz and Takanori Gomi. This has fight of the year written all over it. This fight alone makes the $40 Pay Per View worth it to me and I have a feeling that a lot of diehard fans feel the same way. I reported yesterday that a fight between Mac Danzig and Hayato Sakurai had been confirmed by Mac Danzig to mmawekly.com.  After hearing this news I figured the most likely scenario would be for Diaz to fight Gomi since he just signed a deal with PRIDE and he was scheduled to fight on the Feb 24th card. Putting Diaz against Gomi is a great move by PRIDE because Diaz has a lot of fans and is widely recognized in America where PRIDE has had a lot of trouble gaining popularity. PRIDE has acknowledged that without succeding in America, PRIDE will not be able to last. Signing Diaz was a good move in their quest. The Diaz Gomi fight is a win win for PRIDE; there aren’t that many famous Japanese fighters in America so if Gomi wins then he beat a famous and formidable opponent in the American fans eyes  and it will help boost the fame of Gomi as well as PRIDE. If Diaz wins then it sets up a high profile title fight down the road that will definitely be a huge draw in America which is a main objective of PRIDE. Also PRIDE wants Diaz to have a good showing seeing as they just signed him and they would like him to have a good run. Either way, we are in for one hell of a fight come Feb 24th.

The Mac Danzig and Hayato Sakurai match-up should be a good one. Sakurai is the mmaweekly #2 ranked lightweight in the world and he always puts on a good show. Danzig had a 12 fight win streak going until he lost his KOTC title to Clay French last week. Sakurai has won 6 of his last 7 fights with his one loss to Takanori Gomi at PRIDE Shockwave 2005.  Both of these fighters are very well rounded and match up very well together.

I’m sure a lot of people are happy that Frank Trigg is making his return to the PRIDE ring for the first time in 7 years, because that means he won’t be the color commentator for the event. I personally don’t have a problem with him color commentating, but he takes a lot of heat in the forums and a lot of people complain about him showing favortism among other things. Trigg will be fighting Kazuo Misaki. “Twinkle toes” last fight was against cult icon Jason “Mayhem” Miller  Dec 1st 2006. “Mayhem” was the ICON middleweight champion going into the fight and he lost to Trigg by TKO half way through the 2nd round. Trigg will be defending his new belt for ICON some time in the next few months.  Misaki, who is making his US debut, has a very impressive resume that includes wins against Dan Henderson, Denis Kang, Phil Baroni, and Akira Shoji, all within the last year. I see Misaki taking this one relatively easy but you can never count “twinkle toes” out. I made that mistake in his last fight against “Mayhem” Miller.

The last fight announced was Kazuhiro Nakamura vs. Travis Wiuff. Nakamura is coming off of a unanimous decision loss to “Shogun” Rua at PRIDE Shockwave last month. Travis Wiuff, who is under contract with the IFL, won his last outing against Jason Guida. This match is not as high profile as the other three that were announced, but should be entertaining none the less.

Overall the PRIDE 33 card is really starting to take shape. There are still a few more fights to finalize, but PRIDE is doing a lot better than usual with announcing their fights early. PRIDE is notorious for waiting until a few days before the event takes place to announce the majority of the fights to take place. Here is the card so far courtesy of mmaweekly.com:

-Wanderlei Silva (#3 Light Heavyweight in the World)* vs. Dan Henderson (#6 Middleweight)* [fight at 205 pounds]
-Takanori Gomi (#1 Lightweight)* vs. Nick Diaz (#9 Welterweight)* [fight at 160 pounds]
-Hayato Sakurai (#2 Lightweight)* vs. Mac Danzig
-Kazuo Misaki (#4 Middleweight)* vs. Frank Trigg
-Kazuhiro Nakamura (#9 Light Heavyweight)* vs. Travis Wiuff

-Ricardo Arona (#4 Light Heavyweight)* vs. TBA
-Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (#5 Light Heavyweight)* vs. TBA
-Kazuyuki Fujita vs. TBA
-Cung Le vs. TBA
-Wes Sims vs. TBA

Be sure to check back to MMAlowdown.com very often. I will be posting an interview with a fighter who will be fighting on the UFC 67 card on Feb. 3rd within the next few days. I also will be conducting a few more very interesting interviews in the next few weeks. Big things are happening at MMAlowdown.com and I want you guys to come for the ride.

New season of UFC Unleashed on Spike TV

Dana White revealed in his chat session with UFC.com Fight Club members that thespiketvlogo.JPG new season of UFC Unleashed will premiere this thursday Jan. 25th at 7 pm est. The season premiere of UFC Unleashed will be immediately followed by Ultimate Fight Night  8 which will feature Rashad Evans vs. UFCjunkie.com sponsored fighter Sean Salmon. Spiketv.com also has this on their site, however, the fights that will be featured on the show remains a mystery. In my personal opinion, I believe we will be seeing a lot of former TUF contestants on this season because the casual fans enjoy it more when they can relate to the fighters they are watching.

The full transcript of Dana Whites chat session on UFC.com was posted on mma.tv‘s the UnderGround Forum. I highly reccomend checking it out. It is a very informative read.

I have some very good things in the works for the site, and in the coming weeks I will be posting some very cool stuff. I was fortunate to meet someone with a lot of good connections in the mma world and he is an awesome guy and he is going to be very helpful. You know who you are, and I can’t thank you enough.  Things are really starting to take off here at MMAlowdown and the next few months are going to be very exciting. Keep checking back often and I will have some announcements to make soon.
